Some studies show that grapefruit, lime, peppermint, and cinnamon bark essential oils may help with appetite reduction. Here is a quick breakdown of what the studies share about each oil. 

Grapefruit ~ Citrus X paradisi

  • May act as an appetite suppressant
    • Inhaling grapefruit essential oil for 15 minutes, three times a week decreased appetite, food intake, and body weight. 
  • May increase weight loss
    • Stimulates the breakdown of fat tissue, and because of its mucolytic effect (drying, skin tightening), a 3% blend can be massaged into the skin, giving a smoother appearance over time.
  • Decrease stress
    • Limonene (the top constituent in grapefruit) has been known to decrease stress which could help reduce stress eating.

Lime ~ Citrus aurantifolia

  • Like grapefruit essential oil, lime may also suppress appetite, promote weight loss and prevent weight gain. In addition, it can act as an anti-inflammatory. It can also decrease stress which is helpful for people who stress eat.

Peppermint ~ Mentha piperita

  • Since peppermint is considered a mild stimulant, it may help eliminate food cravings and make you feel full faster. It may also help to block sweet tooth cravings. In addition, it can be energizing to help motivate and decrease fatigue. Maybe sparking a get-up-and-go feeling! 

Cinnamon Bark ~ Cinnamomum zeylanicum

  • Cinnamon Bark can be promising for diabetes because it may reduce blood glucose (elevated blood glucose can lead to weight gain and obesity). Also, thanks to its antioxidant properties, it may reduce oxidated stress which is beneficial for a person suffering from diabetes.

5% Curb Your Cravings Roller Blend

Ingredients

  • 5 drops of  Grapefruit
  • 2 drops of peppermint
  • 2 drops of lime
  • 1 drop of Cinnamon Bark

Directions

  1. In a 10 ml roller bottle add the essential oils
  2. Top the bottle off with your carrier of choice.  For example, grape seed oil, fractionated coconut oil, avocado oil, etc.
  3. Replace the roller top and cover and mix well by inverting 8-10 times.
  4.  When you feel a craving coming on, roll a small amount in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and inhale deeply. 

Curb Your Cravings Diffuser Blend

If you have vulnerable times during the day, try diffusing this blend. For example, it might be helpful to turn your diffuser on when you walk through the door from a long day at work or while you are preparing dinner (or during dessert).

Directions

  1. Simply add the drops to your favorite diffuser.
  2. Enjoy!
